Installation and Setup

There are two separate items that need to be installed to get up and running with DataXchange. There’s the application, which is used to configure the data collection, enter data, run reports and charts, as well as view the RTV dashboard. The second piece is the DX Service which is used to communicate with the equipment and send the data securely to the Cloud.

THE APPLICATION

The application is what all users of DataXchange will install. The DataXchange application is used to configure data collection, enter data, run reports and charts, as well as view the RTV dashboard. The DataXchange application can be installed directly from this website by using the Install DataXchange Now menu item. The application will download, install itself, and launch. A shortcut will be placed in the Start Menu as well as on the Desktop. Each time the application is started it will automatically check for updates. If an update is available it will also automatically download and install itself. The application runs on Windows 10 and requires Microsoft .NET 4.7.2 or newer with all updates. As long as at least .NET 4.7.2 is installed administrative permissions are not required for the installation. It really is that simple!

THE DX SERVICE

The DX Service is the workhorse and does the actual collection and transmits the data to the Cloud securely. The DX Service only needs to be installed on one computer which can be a desktop or server operating system. For the desktop, Windows 10 or greater is required, and for a server Windows Server 2016 or greater is required. In all cases Microsoft .NET 4.7.2 is required along with having the most recent Windows updates installed. The DX Service is available from the Downloads menu item. Once installed and setup with the account information the DX Service will automatically check for updates. If an update is available it will be downloaded and installed automatically.

CONSULTING AND TRAINING

A large part of getting value from an OEE system is learning how to use the data.  Consulting is a considerable part of what takes place as there are ways data should be utilized to get the highest value, and ways to use the data that can hurt the overall value. 

Depending on the capabilities being implemented, and the environment itself, training is usually spread out over multiple sessions.  These sessions may be days or weeks apart.  Training on all functionality when first getting up and running can be too much too soon and could become overwhelming.  The goal is to grow with the data, get everyone involved and expand on the functionality of the system as the data is pointing to needing the next level of information.  The actual data collected is used for the training ensuring the concepts covered are relevant rather than discussing hypothetical scenarios.
