Unlocking the Machine Monitoring Forecast for IMTS 2024

The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) is the largest manufacturing tradeshow of its kind in the United States, holding events every other year since the 1920s. This year’s IMTS will be held from September 9-14th 2024 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois. The previous IMTS in 2022 was a sigh of relief as IMTS 2020 had been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and marked the first time that the show has been canceled since the second World War. Scytec is attending IMTS 2024 in the East Building, Level 3- 133240, and is excited to show the manufacturing world what advancements the DataXchange machine monitoring platform has developed since the last IMTS in 2022 and wanted to make sure you were prepared for what to expect and plan accordingly.

As the manufacturing industry at large continues to evolve at a rapid pace, the integration of smart factory technologies has become imperative for staying competitive in the CNC manufacturing sector. IMTS 2024 promises to showcase groundbreaking innovations, particularly in CNC machine monitoring. In this Scytec industry commentary, we will dive into recent and upcoming smart factory technologies that will allow visitors to continually improve and see the emerging trends set to shape the industry in the coming years until the next IMTS.

Harnessing the Power of Commonality and Moving Forward

CNC machine monitoring is undergoing a revolution, thanks to advancements coming from the Scytec camp. At IMTS 2024, attendees will witness value added gains from some of the recent and upcoming Scytec DataXchange releases that incorporate direct data collection access to more well-known machine brands including Okuma, Heidenhain, and Siemens. What does this mean for manufacturers? These added protocols give DataXchange end users the ability while getting the absolute most out of their machines in terms of data points that can be collected while utilizing an already robust series of data collection methods including OPC UA, MTConnect, and Fanuc FOCAS. Scytec DataXchange gives the manufacturing community the ability to go above and beyond just seeing if your machines are running or not running.

Catching Up on the Previous Developments Since the Last IMTS

Since the last time, Scytec graced the halls of McCormick Place there have been some significant developments with the DataXchange machine monitoring platform. The following spring in 2023 saw Saved and Scheduled Charts being added allowing DataXchange end users to schedule their most necessary manufacturing charts for automatic email delivery. As discussed earlier, other improvements of note are desktop features being added to Data Display as well as further direct protocol access to well-known machine brands for the most minute of data points that can be collected.

Taking Your Simulation Verification to The Next Level

Right before IMTS 2022, the manufacturing industry was introduced to the release of the initial offering of CNC Machine Connect, the module inside CGTech VERICUT. This monumental manufacturing partnership between Scytec and CGTech saw the simulation verification standard VERICUT able to access real-time data pulled off shop floor equipment to provide the most accurate digital twins possible. Pre-Check, the first released feature that allows users to make certain that after running a VERICUT simulation and before manufacturing a part on the machine for the first time the data and parameters used in the simulation match what is on the machine thus preventing unexpected errors.

Last year saw the release of the second feature in CNC Machine Connect titled CNC Machine Monitoring. This feature establishes a live connection to CNC machines and allows end users to live stream and monitor what your machines on the shop floor are doing in real-time, within CGTech VERICUT. CNC Machine Monitoring continually updates the connected CGTech VERICUT session with the CNC machine’s axis positions, cutting tool in use, active tool and work offsets, and a wealth of information about how the machine is behaving and performing.

See You at IMTS 2024

The future of CNC manufacturing is undeniably bright, fueled by the transformative power of smart factory technologies. At IMTS 2024, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the latest innovations in CNC machine monitoring from Scytec DataXchange and witness firsthand the trends set to shape the industry in the coming years.
